cutting and chopping

No, not onions or indeed any other form of vegetable.  I have been writing again and have just completed a short story, as I have decided to enter it in a competition it has been subjected to considerably more editing than if it were to linger on my shelf.  Paring it down to only the essential words necessary has been almost as enjoyable as writing the story in the first place.  Like scraping away layers of peeling paint to reveal the natural beauty of the wood I have discovered that the whole feel of the story has changed as I peel off the unnecessary, suddenly phrases that seemed out of place now work perfectly without the hindrance of the detritus that previously got in their way.
